Hands Off! Rally – Brainerd, MN | April 5, 2025
Hosted by Brainerd Lakes Area Indivisible
On Saturday, April 5th, more than 1,000 people gathered at Washington and 6th Street in downtown Brainerd as part of the Hands Off! National Day of Action — one of hundreds across the country demanding protection of fundamental rights, public services, and democratic values.
In what many consider a traditionally conservative and rural region, people from all walks of life and political backgrounds came together to say: enough is enough.
The rally highlighted the growing power of rural communities organizing from the ground up. Attendees came from Brainerd, Baxter, Pequot Lakes, Wadena, Staples, and beyond — uniting to defend democracy, protect essential freedoms, preserve social safety nets, and stand firmly with global allies like Canada and Greenland who share our values of sovereignty, truth, and freedom.
Local residents stepped up to the mic to share powerful stories — about healthcare cuts at the VA, immigrant rights, access to education, and the urgent need to protect democracy. Homemade signs, chants, and testimony filled the sidewalks with hope, determination, and rural solidarity.
The rally may have ended, but the movement is only beginning. The momentum continues — not just in protest, but in community. In conversations. In shared values.
Rural voices are rising — and when we rise together, we rise for all.
Together, we are louder than disinformation, stronger than division, and braver than fear.
