Know Your Rights for Community Advocates and Activists [Webinar]

Brainerd Lakes Area Indivisible is committed to effective, informed, and engaged civic participation.

As part of that commitment, we invite community members and community advocates to join us on August 10 at 6:30 p.m. for a Know Your Rights webinar focused on the rights, responsibilities, and practical considerations that can arise during activism and public advocacy.

This session will explore the protections provided by the First Amendment, common legal issues that can arise during protests and other forms of civic engagement, and practical steps individuals and organizations can take to help protect themselves and their communities.

Participants will gain knowledge and skills to make informed decisions about advocacy, organizing, and public action.

We will also discuss recent legal developments affecting Minnesota activists, including the indictment of 15 protesters in the Twin Cities, to help participants better understand the current legal landscape and its potential implications.

The training will be led by Professor Jessica West and law student Foster Murphey of Mitchell Hamline’s First Amendment Clinic. Whether you are new to advocacy or have years of organizing experience, this session is designed to provide accessible information, answer questions, and help you engage in civic action with greater confidence and preparedness. We hope participants leave feeling informed, supported, and empowered to engage in their communities in ways that reflect their values and goals.
